The Rape of the Lock is a narrative poem written by Alexander Pope, an English poet ed for his satirical verse. Apart from translating Homer’s works, his notable writings include Pastorals, Windsor Forest and Elegy to the Memory of an Unfortunate Lady.

This poem is based on a real minor incident which is narrated in satirical verse. Belinda, an actor goes for a social gathering in spite of warning from her guardian Ariel that she will have to meet an unexpected incident. During the social gathering she wins a card game and while resting her hairs was removed without her knowledge.
