The Best American Humorous Short Stories is collection of short stories written by many authors and collected by Alexander Jessup, who is credited also for many such collections including “The Book of the Short Story” and “Little French Masterpieces”. 

The author mentions in his introductory note that the primary selection criteria for compilation of this books is not only good stories, but short good stories. The author acknowledges the fact that this collection could not cover the complete era of American literature as the copy right restrictions made him to exclude many stories which are more famous than the collection presented here.
